【CH 221】早期教會史:Online Lectures Summary

課程:【CH 221】Ancient Church 早期教會史
教授:Dr. Carl Trueman
學期:2016 Fall
成績:Pass/Fail 計算

In the first lecture, Dr. Trueman focuses on the topic of the doctrine of inerrancy of the Bible. He points out three notions. The first notion is inscripturation. Inscripturation is the idea that God』s revelation can itself be expressed adequately in a verbal form, and Scripture itself points to the phenomenon that nothing is more fundamental to God』s identity than the fact that he speaks. There are three elements to this point: church government, or the structure of the church; the rule of faith; and Scripture, which is the standard and the foundation.Second, the notion of inspiration refers to Scripture as inspired and spoken by the Spirit. As Dr. Trueman stated, the Apostolic Fathers believed the dictation theory of inerrancy. They put the Scripture in relation to the existence of God. The third notion is purpose. Dr. Trueman demonstrates that historically, the doctrine of inerrancy is consistent with the positions held by some of the early church fathers, who are the predecessors of the theory of modern inerrancy.
In the second lecture, Trueman focuses on the topic of the Pelagian controversy. The name Pelagian is from Pelagius, who is representative of the heresies in the early church and known for his theory on free will. Specifically, Pelagius denies the transmission of Adam』s sin. He says that and we do not inherit Adam』s sin by birth, and that our sin is copy of Adam』s sin. Pelagius also says that human freedom is the distinctive between human and animals.
However, as Trueman mentioned, Pelagianism is criticized by Augustine, who says that Adam would not have died if Adam did not fall. Furthermore, the fall of humanity results from pride and self-love. Freedom is the ability to love God.
